“Beat the Heat, Protect the Fish”

June brings warmer temperatures, increased boat traffic, and longer days on the water. While the fishing can be excellent, rising water temperatures can place additional stress on fish. As anglers, it's our responsibility to ensure we're protecting the resource and preserving healthy fisheries throughout the summer months.

🐟 Practice Smart Catch & Release

As water temperatures rise, fish become more susceptible to stress.

  • Land fish quickly using appropriate tackle.
  • Keep fish in the water as much as possible.
  • Limit photo sessions and release fish promptly.
  • Take extra time to ensure fish are fully revived before release.

🌡️ Understand Summer Fish Stress

Warm water holds less oxygen, making recovery more difficult for fish.

  • Avoid keeping fish out of the water for extended periods.
  • If tournament fishing, monitor livewell conditions throughout the day.
  • Use livewell additives and maintain proper aeration when needed.

🚤 Be a Responsible Boater

Summer means more families and recreational boaters on the water.

  • Observe no-wake zones and courtesy buffers around anglers and docks.
  • Be mindful of your wake near shorelines to help reduce erosion.
  • Give fellow anglers space and practice good sportsmanship.

🪝 Protect Wildlife Beyond the Fish

Our lakes and rivers support more than just bass.

  • Properly dispose of fishing line, hooks, and soft plastics.
  • Never leave trash behind at ramps, parking lots, or fishing areas.
  • Watch for nesting birds and other wildlife near shorelines.

💡 This Month’s Challenge

This June, commit to:
✅ Picking up at least 10 pieces of trash during every outing
✅ Help out another angler
✅ Leaving every ramp and fishing spot cleaner than you found it
