The Major League Bass Anglers kept the momentum rolling in the 2026 tournament season with another exciting day on the water!
Following a strong season opener at Lake Anna, the second tournament was held at Lake Chesdin, where anglers once again showed up ready to compete. We had a solid turnout, and the energy, camaraderie, and competition were on full display as teams battled it out across the lake.
🏆 First Place Honors go (again) to Tyrone & Dave, who secured back-to-back wins with an impressive 5-fish limit weighing 12.81 lbs. Their consistency and execution on the water continue to set them apart early in the season.
With this dominant performance, Tyrone and Dave take home the MLBA Belt once again, making it clear they’re the team to beat this year. The bar has officially been raised and the rest of the field is coming for it! 🔥
A big thank you to everyone who came out and participated.
“Where passion meets the water!”

🎣 may Fishing Tips & Tricks
“Post-Spawn Patterns – Feed Time Begins”
May is when bass are coming off the spawn and shifting into feeding mode. Fish are recovering, protecting fry, or already moving toward early summer patterns. This creates multiple opportunities - if you know where to look.
🐟 1. Target Post-Spawn Transition Areas
After spawning, bass don’t go far right away.
Focus on:
- Points just outside spawning coves
- Docks and shallow cover near flats
- First drop-offs and channel edges
These areas act as recovery and feeding zones.
🎯 2. Look for Fry Guarders
You’ll often see small balls of fry near the surface.
- There’s almost always a male bass guarding them nearby.
- Cast past the fry and work your bait through — reaction strikes can be aggressive.
🎣 3. Topwater Bite Heats Up
May is one of the best months for topwater action.
- Buzzbaits, poppers, and walking baits shine early and late in the day.
- Calm mornings and evenings are prime time for explosive strikes.
🌊 4. Cover Water with Moving Baits
As fish begin feeding more actively:
- Spinnerbaits & chatterbaits around grass and wood
- Swimbaits to mimic baitfish
- Squarebill crankbaits for shallow cover
These help you find active fish quickly.
🐬 5. Follow the Shad Spawn
In many lakes, the shad spawn happens in May.
- Look for baitfish spawning on rock, riprap, docks, and grass early in the morning
- Bass will be feeding aggressively in these areas at first light
🌞 6. Adjust as the Day Progresses
Fish behavior changes throughout the day:
- Morning: Shallow, aggressive, feeding
- Midday: Move to shade (docks, laydowns, deeper edges)
- Afternoon: Can reposition based on wind and bait movement
